His Holiness the Pope has been seriously indisposed, but is now making good progress towards recovery. (Received 9.45 p.m., April 10th.) London, April 9. Consols to-day hare declined from 97f to 95, a panic having occurred' on the Stock Exchange, owing to the present political uneasiness. The Bank rate remains at 3i, and the market rate at 2i per cent. The Bank of England weekly returns show the total reserve m notes and bullion to be £16,200,000, a reduction of £300,000 during the past week. The proportion of reserve to liabilities has risen to 47 per cent. New Zealand securities remain at last quotations. Golonial breadstuff's— Adelaide wheat, ex store, has advanced by Is, and is now at 37a per 496 lb. . Adelaide flour, ex store, haa improved by 6d, and is now 26s per 280 lbs. . /■'■■■.-> ' J ... Tallow — Australian average quality remains at 31s 6d for beef, and 33s for mutton. Wool — At to-day's auction a firmer tone prevailed. 10,400 bales have been offered since the opening of ' the series. 20,000 bales have been withdrawn from sale out of a total of 169,800 catalogued. The Australian mails per Messagaries Maritime steamship Caledonia from Melbourne, dated February 28th, were delivered to-day via Marseilles. The Merchant Shipping and Underwriters' Association report the arrivals of the Ada Melmore from Port Chalmers ; Glenmore from Wellington, and Euterpe from Napier. (Speoiaii to the Press Association.) The, Chinese troops will evacuate Tonquin on the 16th May. The French blockade of Formosa will be raised tomorrow.
