The first to show in front was Lady Gertrude^ followed closely by Hanlan and Tiger Tim. After going a furlong Hermitage went up alongside Hanlan, but Lady Gertrude led into the straight a length in advance of Tiger Tim, while Hanlan was at the latter' s quarters, and Hermitage close up on the outside. Nearing the sod wall whips were out to all except the last-named, who at the distance post held a alight lead of Tiger Tim. At the rails Spade Guinea and Hanlan again came, and getting on even terms' with Hermitage and Tiger Tim, a most exciting finish ensued.
