It is announced that 8000 troopa will embark at once for Tonquin, m order to reinforce General Brierier de Lisle. The Chamber of Deputies has voted fifty million francs aa an instalment towards the Tonquin credit. (Received 3 p.m., April Ist.) London, March 31. Consols have advanced- by \, and are to-day quoted at 97£. New Zealand securities :- 5 per cent 10-40 loan 101 V (ex div); U percent 1879-19041081), 100J"; 4 per cent inscribed stock 98i. The market rate of discount has declined 21, and is now § below the Bank rate. Colonial Breadstuffs — Adelaide wheat, oft' oast, is now realising 35s ; quotations ex store for Adelaide nnd New Zealand wheat, and Adelaide flour are unchanged. Wool — At to-day's auction 11,000 bales were offered. The market is quieter. The Shaw-Savill and Albion Company's s.s lonic, from Wellington, arrived at Plymouth last evening. The shipment of hops from Australia by the steamer Liguria, have arrived m excellent condition. The Rev. J. G. Paton, Presbyterian Missionary, who is interesting himself m objecting to the cession by England of the. New Hebrides to France, has raised £4000 towards assisting him m his objection. The meat by the steamer lonic is m ' prime condition.
