WASHDYKE SALE YARDS COMPANY.

IO the editor of the timaru herald. Sib, — Through the medium of your valuable columns permit me to make a fow enquiries re the alteration m tho day of Bale m consequence of the next sale day falling on Good Friday. At the close of the aale held on the 20th instant Messrs Guinneas and Gray, auctioneers, stated (by authority, I presume) that the noxt Bale would be held on Thursday, April 2nd, owing to Good Friday. Now, an advertisement by the Secretary announces tliat the sale will be held on Wednesday, April Ist, m consequence of the Winchester Fair on Thursday. Thb must have been known whon the alteration was made to that day, and I think, Sir, that the second alteration must have been mado to Buit the convenience of some auctioneer connected with the Directory. Would it not be better to hold the sale on a day not occupied by other public sales ? On Wednesday, April Ist, there is the monthly public sale at the Geraldine yards, and on Thursday the Winchester Fair. I think, therefore, that m f ustice fco the above established sales, and to

the public -who wish to attend, tho date of the next sale at the Company's yards at the Washdyke should be held on a day not to clash with other sales. While writing on this there is one other matter to which I should like to draw the attention of the Directors — viz., the appointment of someone to take charge of the yards, and alono to direct persons m what yards their stock is to be placed. At the last sale one who did not know would have thought that ono particular auctioneer was Managing Director. He assumed complete control of the yards, and with his mau directed persons coming with stock into what yards they were to put them. I think, Sir, you will agree with me that no auctioneer selling at public yards should havo such an advantage over others placed m his hands. I am, &c, A Dealeb.
