A COLLISION IMMINENT.
(Received 1 a.m., March 12th.) London, March. 11. "Parleying is still proceeding between England and Russia on the Afghan question, but so far a3 ia known no progress has been made towards an amicable settlement. The Time* to-day states that a collision is imminent, a fresh Russian advance having taken place in the direction of Herat, and that Sir Peter Lumsden, the British Commissioner, has consequently been directed by the Government to organise defensive measures to be pursued by the Afghans against the Russian advance. The Times further states that British troops from India have been ordered to occupy Kobat Pass on the Hindoo Koosh between Herat and the frontier. (Speciai to the Press Association.) (.Received 1 a.m., March 12th.J London, March 11. The Times states that Russia has made a further advance into Afghan territory, in defiance of England's protest, and a collision is now considered imminent. Sir Peter Lumsden, of the Afghan Frontier Commission, has been directed to take the necessary measures to organise an Afghan defence. The Afghans now hold the Kobat Pass, and stops are being taken to fortify Herat. __^^
