Mannings bowled exceedingly well for Timaru, taking five wickets for 15 runs. • Godby and Raymond started the batting for Timaru, Hayhurst and Gurr bowling. Runs came at a great rate, Godby, who was m grand form, especially scoring fast. Ogilvie and Heap next took up the bowling. With the score at 40 Raymond was out lbw, retiring for a well-played 15. C. Perry filled the vacancy, and runs came faster than ever. Godby, however, was given out lbw, after putting together 40 m splendid style. 65 —2 —40. Bothwell was next to appear, and Ogilvie bowled m place of Pinckney. Perry and Rothwell took the score up to 95, but then the former let a ball from Heap pass his bat, and gave way to Mannings. The retiring batsman had made 18 m Ids usual neat style. The score was still mounting up fast, both men hitting hard, but Mannings, after putting together 16 very rapidly, was bowled by Heap. 118 —4—16. Hughes was the incomer, and was soon busy, Rothwell being principally on the defensive. Hughes at last was beaten by Pinckney. 143—5 —11. Fraser then joined Rothwell, and runs still came, so Wood and Hayhurst took up the bowling. Fraser hit one to leg, and was well caught by Gurr. 155—6—5. ¥. Jones came m, but after making 4 was clean bowled by Hayhurst. 163-7—4. Mills had just gone m when time was called, Rothwell being not out for a careful aud nicely played 39.
