WAIMATE COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Waimat County Council was held on Wednesday, th 28th inst. Present— Messrs J. Menoheste (Chairman), Douglas, O'Brien, Hayes, Hardi and Laurie. CORRESPONDENCE. The minutes of hit meeting having boei confirmed, letters were road as follow* : — From the Puhlic Works Office, m reply t< an application, stating that before paymen! it made urjder the provisions of the Roadi and Bridges Conslruetion Act, it is neceßsarj to forward the certificate of the Districl Engineer to the effect that the Council bai provided the share of the cost required. From the Waitaki County Council, stating that that Council will receive a deputation of the Waimnte Council on the 28th last., it the matter of completion of the Upper Wai« taki Bridge. From fir D. M. Ko;?, of Timaru, on beball of Mrs Holmes and her Trustees, guaranteeing all costs of obtaining a road to part of rural section 4639, Makikihi, and asking to have the matter carried out as soon as possible. From the Crown Lands Office, informing that if the Council forward to that office a letter addressed to tha Minister of Lands, requesting part of K.S. 6632, which was conveyed to the Superintendent ef Canterbury on March 17tb, 1875, to be vested m the Waimate Council for purposes m connection with approaches to the Pareora bridge, the Government will be recommended to give effect to it. From the Waimate Borough Council, informing that consideration of the proposal to erect a footbridge over Waimate river wag deferred to next meeting of that Oounoil. From Mr Bickman, complaining of having lost heavily lately, and during the year, from the ravages of dogs among his sheep, and suggesting that a proper inspection of dogs m the County be carried out, as he had do doubt large numbers are unregistered. On the 17th inst. he lost eighteen sheep through their being torn by dogt. Mr Bickman also direoted attention to the necessity of protective work; to tha bridge over the Waimate river near his residence. From Mr Clement on behalf of Mr Robert Buchanan of Pudding Hill, claiming compensation for land taken for a road through his property, viz., 3} acres at £10 10a per acre, and 59 chains of fencing at 20a per chain, total £95 15s. From the same, requesting that section 29325, Waiho Forks, be placed m the names of John McCulloch and John McLean upon the Valuation 8011, they having leased the section and agreed to pay the County rates. From Mr Bickman, informing that he hat ceased to be the occupier of reserve 679, Hook, since the Ist inst., and asking to have bis name taken off the rate roll, as Messrs Hardie and McGoverin are now the lesceei. From Mr John McNamara, asking to have the road to sections 29457 and 55531 made passable. From the Levels Boad Board, informing bliat when the Board meets a cheque for the Levels Boad Board's portion of the payment for works at the Pareora Bridge will be forwarded. THE HOSPITAL. The Hospital Surgeon reported — Patients admitted during the month, 2 ; out patients, J; discharged — cured 2; relieved, lj renaiaing uuder treatment, 3. engineer's bkfobt. The Engineer's report showed that the vorke m hand are progressing favorably. Tenders for the erection of the ilakateramea jridgo, metalling part of Waitaki to Haka;er*mei main road, and part of Waimate :o Pareora main road, all under the Boads md Bridges Construction Act, are for consideration of the Counoil this day. Mr C. Hille's Application — Road from Hakateramea main road to applicant's property, about one mile. — This may be postponed until the land is fenced. Mr &. 8. Allan's objection to dosing certain roads m Fisher's paHdocke, he being owner of sections adjacent. — As these sections have been sold by Mr Alan to one peraon, and payments not yet due, the Council isadvised I but the matter be allowed to reBain as at present, and tbat the land comiriaed m the closed roads be not alienated jtatil the time of contract of title be comdieted. Mr Pigeon's complaint — The damage comgained of, on the road leading up Otaio Galley is caused by the overflow of Gek >eek. This would be obviated by a diverion of the road, at a cost of £250, or more effectually by a diversion of the creek, but :ither plan would interfere with existing trrangements. Messrs Boyle and Beeves' application for i bridge on the Main road near Otaio station, A> take water discharged by Woolshod Gully jreek — Ihere are at present two bridges m m connection with this creek, but the water was diverted by previous owners of the property to a point midway between the two, and m consequence of the scour and aooumulation of debris, the water m flood time largely overflows the road, causing considerable damage to the road and land adjoining. The Council had a drain dug aerost the swamp to one of the bridges, with the understanding that the applicants were to fill m the old ditch, and provide for keeping the water m the new one. This they have not done. The cost of a bridge as suggested by the applicants would be £300, and there would be required an outlay of a Urge tarn to offeot drainage towards the beach. McLean's application — A portion of. the road leading from Dog Kennel Creek to the top of the hill, about 1J miles, — should bo formed, to give aeoeis to land About to be broken up. Cannington — About 100 ohains of metalling was authorised on a road leading through this property, giving access to 6, large area of bulb, when funds should be available. A schedule of works to be applied for under the Boads and Bridges Construction Act, to be applied for on or before June 30th, was submitted. The balance-sheet for the last half-year was also submitted by the Clerk. BEBOLUTIONB. The following resolutions were paster] :— " Tbat the balance-sheet as cow laid on tbe table be adopted." Blaok for contract No. 538, £925 9j 8il ; Mr Guilford, for No. 539, £182 10s j and Mr Guilford for No. 640, £102, were acorpted.
