Kawatiri arrived from the Sonth early yesterday morning. Sho took m 100 tons of wheat here, and left for Anckland m tho afternoon. The ketch Prince Rupert sailed for Catlin's River early yesterday. Tho schooner Maud Graham was hauled alongside the wharf yesterday morning, and commenced discharging her cargo of timber. The local agent for the New Zealand Shipping Company notifies consignees of tho ship Hurnnui that they must sign average bond at tho Company's offico, and pay a deposit of 2 per cent on the value of their goods before delivery orders are issued. The Lijticlton Times of yesterday contains tho following : — The schooner Herald arrived from Wellington yesterday afternoon with a cargo of timber. Captain Jenson reports that whilst off Chpe Campbell, on Saturday morning last, while tho south-west gale was raging m all its fury, he was m company with a ketch (but not close enongh to make her out), and all at once she disappeared. Ho sailed ovor tho spot, and saw a portion of her hatch and somo timber. The vessel was probably bonnd to this port. Referring to tho Edwin Fox, well known m Timarn, tho Southland Timc.t says : — Most people who have scon the bluff-bowed old barque Edwin Fox, now approaching an age no 'lady would own to, would never givo the vessel credit for more than six knots au honr with even a small hurricane after her. Yet the tough old English craft has held her own with such a clipper as the Waipa on the run Homo ; has beaten tho Aberdeen clipper Famonoth, and small |barquo Eleetra, by nine and ten days respectively, and only lowered her colors to another well-known Bluff trader, the Tongoy, which beat the Fox by four days.
