Captain Armit, special correspondent to the Argus, and the members of his expedition, have arrived here from New Guinea. Only one of the party is free from fever. Captain Armit reports that Professor Denton, who not accompanying him to New Guinea, died of fever on the 28th August. Melbourne, Oct. 13. Britisher and Ironhand are scratched from the Melbourne Cup list. News has been received from W»ratah Bay that Martin Weiberg, the Avoca uold robber, has been drowned there. He went out m a dingy when drunk, and it is presumed that the boat upset. The Argus to-day publishes a telegram from Captain Armit, announcing his return from New Guinea ill with fever, and with all but one of his party suffering from the same malady. Professor Denton. ho states, died from exhaustion after a eevero attack of fever.
