ARRIVAL OF THE U.S.S. COMPANY'S EXPRESS BOAT TAKAPUNA.

Dtjnedin, Oct. 13. Tho Union Steam Shipping Company's new steamer Takapuna arrived this morning. Sho left Glasgow on August 17th ; the Capo on September 1-ith ; and Hobart on the Bth inst. She had strong southerly winds to the Bluff, and south-west winds up the coast, making the Heads at six o'clock last night. The actual time under steam was fifty days. By calling at St. Vincent, Capetown and Hobart, she lost five days. Her run to St. Vincent was unusually quick, beating tho Capo mail boat, but from that port to Hobart she ran half power only, to savo coal. Tho weather m tho early part of tho voyage was very good, but m the " rolling forty's" she proved herself an excellent sea boat. She is very dry, and free from the tremor usual m screw steamers of high speed engines. Her steam steering gear worked well during the voyage. Her chief officer is Mr R. Monkman ; second, Mr F. Newcombo ; third, Mr F. Tomory ; purser, Mr Wotherspoon ; first engineer, Mr J. B. Hutton ; second, Mr P. Mudio ; third, Mr Amenair ; fourth, Mr D. Hood. She brought the following passengers : — The Hon. George McLean, Mr John Darling, Mr and Mr 3 Dobbie, Mesdames Mathoson, Watson and two children, Ladder, Fergnsson, Miss Matheson, Messrs Anderson, M. Garrery, Macandrew, Lewis, Fergusson, McLonghlin, and Master Matheson.
