Mr Syduey Davies reports :—Wages—Day labor, Gs to 83, and (rarely) 93 ; head shepherds, LBO to L 95, with clogs ; shepherds, Lt3s to LSO, with dogs ; station couples, LBO to LOO; farm conple9, L 65 to L 75; gardeners, 23s to 30s ; farm hands, 20s to 253 ; ploughmen, 22a Cd and 255; grooms, men 25s to 30s; youngsters, los and 17s Cd; driversont —men, 20s and upwards ; youngsters, 20s and downwards ; ont-door cooks, for stations, 25s and 303; for shearers, 35s and 40s ; knockabouts, 15s to 20s; boys, town. 6s to 10s; country, 8s to 15s; millers, L 2 103 and L 3 10s ; female day labor, 3s, 4s and 5s • housekeepers, HO to LSO; cooks, L 35 to LOS; honsemaids, 12s to 16s ; general servants, 9s to 13s; nnrse maids, 7s 6d to 10s 0.1: generally nsofnls, 5s to 8s ; kitchen and scullery maids, otc, Gs to Od. Men are considerably more plentiful than they have been, but still fall far short of the requirements of tho district m point of numbers. Female servants avo plentiful enough with the exception of cooks, who are hard to be got. Useful boys aro very scarce ; tho other sorts aro not so.
