Knowing that all the work could not be undertaken, I hare prepared an estimate of what I consider I would meet the present requirement*. I " The contractor for building bridge on Taiko Flat declined to take up his contract, consequently he forfeited his deposit, and, with the consent of the Chairman, I accepted the tender of Mr J. 8. I w»s also prevented by the weather from meeting Mr Capps m reference to »toppage, but will do so this week. " I hare written to the Auditor m reference to the remission of rates. His answer will be laid before you. "Quinn and Brosnaban'i application. — There is about 160 chains of this ro«d that requires shingle. If the owners of the land adjacent would allow shingle to betaken, I think the cost would not exceed 12s per chain. I should recommend this work to be done immediately after harvest, as during the •ummer, the road is good. " The rivers during last week were m flood again, but no material damage was done. Tho approaches to the fords m many oases were cut away, bat hare been repaired, The Washdyka lagoon again overflowed the road, and a largo stream was running on the south side of Ihe bridge, washing away the mstal, but the bank broke early on Thursday, and the water immediately subsided.
