At tho Polico Court yesterday, before Mr A. Bruco, Frederick Lough was charged with wound-, jng ono Arthur' Innes, thereby doing him grievous hodily .harm, at Omahu on 22n l;March. ; Mr Miller appeared for tlie accused. Sergeant Gillies said that tho accused had ouly just boni arrested, and the polico had not had time to get tho full particulars. From what ho had learnt-, however, it appeared thnt, a mooting of settlors had boon callrd by a man named ."Arthur limes, who resided at Omahu. i After tho mooting, at which tho accused was present, an altercation took placo at tlici schoolhouse, Omahu, where tho meeting was hold, between accused and Innos, which culminated in either blows or a wrestling match. Tho accused foil down during tho scuffle, but immediately got up again, and soizing an Indian club, hit Innes' on tho hoad. Innes, who. was knocked insensible, had been taken to thollospila 1 , 'Innes was no bettor yet,-and as tlifl wound was serious the. doctor could-not yet say how it would end. Under tho circumstance, he would ask for a remand until Friday. ,

Sergeant Gillies said that if the injured man had recovered consciourness ho would havo had no Objection to bail being granted, but as ho had not. and tho wound was serious, ho 'would foel it his duty to oppose bail being granted. Tlio Bench, said tlicro appeared to bo no reason why. bail should not bo granted. \ < Sergeant Gillies asked that tho bail should bo mado substantial. The Bench granted bail, accused in £50, and two sureties of £50 each.

; From enquiries made at tho Hospital this morning early we learnt that Innes was .recovering consciousness although not in ft fit-state then to give aa account of the affair.
