The Dust Evil.

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—la reference to the dust nuisance, no doubt it is a nuisance, ' arid number one must be considered before anybody else; each one for ' himself. Th'o Borough Council should v abate the nuisance if they have the means, but the Council say they have no means, Even if money is found by the Borough, then the whole Borough must be treated alike—Pollen street is not the Borough. Seeing, therefore, that it is «ut of the question for the whole town to be watered, and '*' that the, residents in Pollen street desire-that water should bo spread over that street, especially so that the goodi in their shops shall not deteriorate in value, the only thing to be done is for those interested to be prepared 'to pay for it. A good plan will be for some one with public spirit to convene a meeting of Pollen street shopkeepers to consider the matter and organise to meet the evil. I am of opinion there will be found a good few ' shopkeepers in Pollen street who will gladly accept all the good to be derived from the movement, but will evade payment of their quota under various excuses. This cannot be helped, because selfishness is always to be found ■ without very much looking for; still, if the shopkeepers wish to save their goods they' must make a move, The Council, no doubt, will render all the assistance they can by providing water and appliances.—l am, <fcc., FAIRNEBS.
