A return was presontod by the Surplus Labor League, containing the names of 130 men out of work, with 415 dependent upon them. The members drew up and signed a. letter to the Premier drawing his attention to'the state of tho labor market in tho district and :asking that: immediate relief b» afforded by placing a number of men ! on tho Midland Kailwav works at the
Springliold cud, and suggesting that a Stute farm should he # started in , Canterbury; that, a number of men should bo placed on the occupid . railway reserves, and that homestead and village settlements should bQ • oatabliM in tho district,
