MINING NEWS.

THE FAYOIfIUTK. The Thames foreshore area, applied for by Mr J. W. Walker, and about which there was some dispute owing to a claim made by Colonel Eraser, which has been amiably settled, is now submitted to investors, and the promoters place a most attractive prospectus before the public, based on previous results, and the highest expert, opinions. The area comprises the Thames foreshore from the fool of Albert street In the Powder Wharf near the Shellback, also the Kuranui and Shotover mines, and adjoining ground, and the beach section fronts the great gold-producing mines of the past and present, the reefs of which all trend seaward. There is no doubt that all the reefs jin their western course have been [ subject to faults or downthrows. The reclamation works have made dry land of what was formerly a portion of the Oulf, and this is available for sinking and for the necessary buildings and equipments, batteries, etc, In a pamphlet published by Mr Park, director of the Thames School of Mines, recently issued, he thus refers to the subject of the* deep levels: " From a long personal acquaintance with the characteristics and peculiarities of the gold-bearing country, and the reefs of the Thames goldHeld, I am convinced that when its main lodes and low levels are fully developed, it will enter on a second lease of life more prosperous,' although perhaps less exciting, and infinitely more enduring than the first." The area applied for is 140 acres, but that will be but a small portion of what the proposed company will have under control. • It is estimated, we are informed, that the capital required immediately for development is £50,000, but 50,000 shares will be reserved to furnish pumping, winding, and milling machinery, which will be required indue course.— Herald
