The president, in his inaugural address, referred to the late trouble nt Moontn, and said the fact which unfortunately caused the men to lose the light, which would otherwise have ended iii victory, was that wheu the men went out there wag a fall in copper, and this enabled the company to close the mine and keep it closed. He hoped that during the coming year' the miners would stand shoulder to shoulder. Dur. ing the past three months or so there had been an enormous number of meu out of employment in the colony, and only by bringing great influence to bear on the Govemmout could this deplorable slate of: affairs be alleviated; The ovwnlns might be flooded into the mining industry, and they would have to giwrd their position with greatest discretion.
