The annual conference of delegates from the branches of No. 1 Colonial District of the Amalgamated Minors , Association of Australasia was commenced at Ben- ' digo lately, Mr A. H.Laini, president, in tho chair. There wore 50 delegates present from all parts of Victoria and "Tasmania, The balance-sheet . sjiowed the receipts of the executive council, apart from the branches, to have been £4,180, inohidiug £1,281 brought forward and the expenditure £3,751 including £1,841 strike pay, £950 funeral allowances, £216 for the chief .council, and £308 for delegates expenses, The strike pay voted during the year was-Newcastle (N.S.W.), £300; Denniston (N.Z.), £145; Moonta (S.A), £984; and Moe (Victoria), £111. The president, in his inaugural address, referred to the late trouble nt Moontn, and said the fact which unfortunately caused the men to lose the light, which would otherwise have ended iii victory, was that wheu the men went out there wag a fall in copper, and this enabled the company to close the mine and keep it closed. He hoped that during the coming year' the miners would stand shoulder to shoulder. Dur. ing the past three months or so there had been an enormous number of meu out of employment in the colony, and only by bringing great influence to bear on the Govemmout could this deplorable slate of: affairs be alleviated; The ovwnlns might be flooded into the mining industry, and they would have to giwrd their position with greatest discretion.
