POLICE COURT.-Yesterday.

' Drunk and DisoßDEniY.-Elizabeth Birdwood, a noted character, was charged with being guilty of this offence in Davy. street on Monday evening—Detective Farrell stated en oath that his attention was called on Monday evening at 11 o'clock to a great disturbance in a brothel in Davy-strect. On going to the place he saw the accused fighting with another woman. He put her out, and she commenced to akse him, and act in a disorderly manner. With the assistance of a constable he took, her iuto custody.— Mrs Andrews, a neighbour of Mrs MeGrcgor,. in whose house the row took pjace, gave evidence to the effect that a disgraceful scene was.enacted in the brothel on' Monday night. There was a regular fight in the" house before accused was put out, and cries of murder wore made. The detective never ill-used her, but she frequently made use of bad language to him whilst being conveyed'to the lockup.— Wm. Chns; Hastings deposed that he resided in Davy-street. He was inbed when he was awakened by hearing some one knock at the door. He looked out and saw some person lying in front of the house. The police came up then, and took the prostrate person, who was a drunken man, to the lock-up. There was a great vow in McGregor's house, and shortly after the arrival of the police the accused came stumbling out,- She was drunk. There, were frequent rows in the house. He did not think Farrell used violence' to the woman.—His Worship held the charge proved, and fined accused 10s, or in default, 48 hours' imprison* ment.—The fine was not paid.
