London, February 3. Arrived: The s.s. ' Cuzco.' SENTENCE 01? THE GLASGOW BANK

DIRECTORS.

The sentences on the Glasgow Bank directors are as follows Potter and Stronach,eighteen months each; Taylor, Inglis, Wright, Salmon, and Stewart, eight months' imprisonment each.

Counsel urged that they were not guilty of the false balances, as there was no motive for falsifying.

THE DECLARATION OP WAR,

Cetawall failed to tender his submission, and war has been declared against him.

London, February 1. The New Zealand loan is one per cent, higher. All colonial securities buoyant. Consols are 97. The market rate of discount is2|. The Bank reserve is 12| millions.

San Francisco, February 1. The 'Australian/ with the London mails of the 2nd left San Francisco on the 21st of January one day late. The ' City of New with the January colonial mails, arrived at San Francisco on the 29tli January, one day in advance of contract time;

Paris, January 30.

President MacMahon refuses to accede to the change in the Anti-Repub-lican commanders in the army corps which the Ministry desire to make, which .they recently declared they would avoid, unless the consequences proved detrimental to the nation, Marshal MacMahon threatens to resign rather than the army should be disorganised. A majority of the Chambers intimate that if his resignation is tendered it will be accepted.

Marshal MacMahon is persisting in his refusal to acquiesce in the changes of commanders, and has virtually resigned. His formal resignation is probably to-morrow. The Congress, Senate, and Chamber of Deputies then meet to elect his successor.

M. Grevy is elected by a large majority and proclaimed President of the Republic for seven years.

Paris, January 31. The Ministry remain in office, the President refusing to accept their resignation.

Marshall MacMahon retires into private life.

M. Gambetta Las been elected President of the Chamber of Deputies.

Bombay, January 30. General Stewart's cavalry entered Kilaligliilzie.

January 31. Vali Mahomet, brother of the Amir of Afghanistan, arrived at Kurum, and solicited General Roberts to receive him. A number of the chiefs of the Shimbari accompany Tali.

London, January 31. The Glasgow Bank Directors made no defence, and only called witnesses to character, Potter and Stronach were found guilty as charged, Thk others have been found guilty of. issuing false balances, and will be sentenced on Saturday.
