If the 1 City of New York' left San Francisco on the 25th ult, aa atated, she is expected to arrive here on Friday, in which case arrangements have been made for the 'Bawea' to take the mails down the coast immediately upon arrival. Mr Weston left for the Thames by the ' Eotomahana' lo lay the drainage scheme before Captain Fraser, by whom it is to be settled. No reply has yet been received from the bank's solicitors about the loan securities.
A general rale of Is for the ensuing year was decided on at the City Council meeting to-day. Mayor Hurst proposed that it should be 9d, but no one supported him. At an extraordinary general meeting of the Sash and Door Company, it was decided to increase the capital by the issue of thirty thousand new shares, of the nominal value of £5 each. Sailed: The s.s. ' Wanaka,' for Tauranga and the South. The Georgia Minstrels were passengers.
