MINING MATTERS.
Pumping Association. — That very good progress has been made with the drives which are extending north and south from the 640-feet level of the Pumping Association shaft was proved by the usual fortnightly measurement yesterday. It was ascertained that during the fortnight the south, drive had been extended 15 feet through hard couutvy, making its total length at present 201 feet; and the north drive, which had been principally driven through quartz country, has been extended 19 feet in the same time, making its total length 283 feet. This quartz country was interspersed with clay bands, but the whole of it has now been passed, and the face of the drive is at present in a nice kiudly free sandstone formation, which promises well for any quartz that may be met with in it, and which is at the same time easily worked.
Annie.—At a meeting of the directors of the Annie Gold Mining Company, Owharoa, held at the company's office yesterday, Mr W. Climo, of Tararu, was appointed mine manager, with instructions to proceed to take charge at once, and to push on the operations necessary for the development of the mine. White Hose Tbibute.—A small crushing of 3 tons of stuff was finished yesterday at the Moanataiari battery for a return of 6ozs gold. Grown Pbincess.—The crushing for this company, which is progressing with 15 head of stampers at the Una battery, will not bo finished before noxt week; hut it is satisfactory to learn that the stuff is yielding excellently, and that amalgam is rapidly accumulating. Yesterday a large quantity of picked stuff and specimens which had accumulated on hand was put through the mill, but the exact amount of amalgam accruing from this stuff is not yet known.
