Cirtulars have been sent round by the directors of the Cross Newspaper Company convening a meeting of shareholders for Friday to take into consideration the winding up of the company. Mr Horton's offer for tho purchase has been accepted subject to the approval of the shareholders. It is rumoured that a composition of one shilling in tho pound will be paid. At a meeting of tho Presbytery to-day the Ecvß. Galloway was elected moderator.

Arrived: Tho' Sissy,' from Lyttelton, with grain; s.s.' Hawea' from the South. Mr Tonks, M.H.U., is among tho passengers. Sailed: The s.s. ' Llewellyn' for Sydney. In the Supreme Court Henaro Hanui, for breaking and entrring at tho Bay of Islands, was sentenced to six months; William 11. Collins and Osborne H. Ulothwere charged wilh stealing £630, the property of Dr Mohabecr, on tho 9th of July last. The evidence was very conclusive against the prisoners. Peter Humphreys, an elderly bushman, was charged to-day with exciting io commit an unnatural offence, and was remanded till to-morrow.

Sir George Grey has telegraphed to Mr Lusk to return to Wellington. He leaves on Saturday. The fancy dress ball to-night is expected to be a grand affair. . At a meeliogof the Presbytery soveral members expressed approval of the Bev Mr Hill's refusal of the Ponsonby call.
