CKICKET-SHORTLAND V. GRAHAMSTOWN.

Such an afternoon :< as Saturday must have, put every ..cricketer into good spirits. Not'a cloud to be seen;-a gentle breeze blowing-just enough to keep one from feeling the heat oppressive. The pretty ground at Parawai was rendered still more attractive by the ladies who graced tho ground by their presence, Khortland won the toss, and sent in Crawford and Hulme. Eobinßon began' bowling, and soon got rid of Hulme and Euddock. lawless was entrusted withthe leather at the otter end, and quickly "yorked" Crawford. Crump followed, but unfortunately played one from tho skipper on to his_wicket, to the relief of the Grabamstownians. Bull, Brassey, Schofield, and Whitford did not help the score much.' Gellion and Wardell, however,, stayed the rapid downfall,,.which caused' Steedman to relieve Lawless. This had' the desired effect, _ Wardell retiring for a hard hit 29. Gellion got his eight in good style, was caught at .point off a ball that got up very quickly, The innings closed for 65. Eobinson and Walkins began hitting for Grahamstown, but through bad judgment the latter was. run out; Colson followed, and runs began to come; but Eobinson, who seems out of form, hit across one pretty well up from Whitford, and which made an unpleasant noise, so well' known to a batsman. His runs were quickly got. Fred Paul looked like scoring, called to his partner for'a short run, who "did not see it." The ball being well thrown .in caused the fast bowler's exit. Seven wickets were down for 68 runs, Colson being not out for 29, got in his usual neat style, now becoming familiar to us, his cutting and driving being particularly taking. Grahamstown has still four wickets to fall.- The match is to be continued next Saturday, at the same time and place. - •v • ; - : SHORTLAND.
