SPECIAL TELEGEAMS.
(PBOII OUE OWN COBBESPONDENTB ) — Auckland, Saturday, 5.5 p.m. A fatal accident occurred at Eussell on the 10th. Two seamen, named Ihomas Bennington and George Lane, of the .American barquo''Tamerlane,' attempted to swim ashore from the vessel lying in Busßel harbour for the purpose of deserting. The attention of Constable Shaw was attracted to tho place by hearing Bennington call out, " Hold on " to Lane, when Lano sank within a hundred yards from tho beach, and was drowned. Bennington was subsequently found in an exhausted slate sitting on a rock, and was taken to tho station. If aviug been supplied with dry clothing and warm drinks, he gradually recovered. Lane's body has since been found.
