Both candidates said they would support Sir George Grey, The show of hands resulted as follows :-Bees, 50; Holdship, 38. The poll will take place on Friday.—The horses in one of Crowther's Newmarket coaches ran away to-day. The driver, named Madden, was thrown' off, and the wheel passed over him. He was severely injured.—At the Police Court to-day, Thomas Brown, of the Whau,_ was brought up charged with an abominable offence, and remanded.—An exciting contest is expected to-morrow at the City West polling.—At a special meeting of the Harbour Board, a' letter was read from Mr Watson tendering the necessary bonds for the completion of the work of wharf extension. After discussion, it was resolved to accept Watson's sureties and complete the contract.
