(FROM OUR OWN COEBESrONDENTS.) — Auckland, Monday, 6,40 p.m. The * Pboabe' arrived from the South, and the 1 Wellington' sailed South today. The 'Go-Ahead' arrived from Napier.—Five Maori whares and two store-houses were burnt at Orakei yesterday. The fire is supposed to be the result of an accident. —At the District Court, James Siddons v. Hugh Hart . Lust, a claim for damages and expenses on account of defendant, then Provincial Secretary, not paying in a deposit received from the plaintiff for the purchase of Government land at Gisborne. The evidence was heard the last Court day and to-day judgment given for plaintiff's claim, £23, and costs £17. Patrick Gleesori, for burying filth in his back yard, was fined £5, including' costs. He had been writing letters to the Council complaining of the Nuisance Inspector not doing his duty. Robert Burns, sailmaker, was sentenced to six months'imprisonment for robbing a countryman who was drunk at the Greyhound Hotel. —At the half-yearly meeting of the South British Insurance Company to-day, the profit and loss account showed :-Dr. Fire and marine losses, £24,635; reinsurances, salaries, &0., £11,451; dividend last half-year, £2,109; carried to capital account, £7,812 ; balance, £14,662; total, £60,671. Credit:—Balance from last half-year, £12,778; fire and marine premiums, £45,220; interest, dividends, &c., £2,635; fees, £37; total, £60,671. .> The meeting adopted the report and balance-sheet. Messrs White and Batger were re-eleoted auditors. A dividend of ten per cent, was declared, payable to-morrow.-Black, cook of the 'Baron Aberdare,' who has been missing over a week, and was supposed to have been drowned, turned up to-day at Papakura, and' was brought into town. He will be charged with desertion. Sharemarket.—Caledonian (new issue), 12s 6d; buyers, 12s; Union Beach, buyers, lis; Eoyal Oak, buyers, 7s 9d; Cure, sellers, 10s, Pride of Tokatea, 3s; sellers, 2s 3d.
