ISLAND OF YAP.
CABLE CONTROL QUESTION. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. NEW YOJJIC, Oct. 23. It is learned that thd United States, at the International Communications Conference, will seek the internationalisation of tho Pacific island Yap as a cable landing station. It is understood that tho United States desires to prevent Japan securing exclusive control over cables entering and branching off from Yap. Japan claims that the Supreme Peace Council gave her control of Tap as part of the mandatories over ex-Ger-man Pacific islands north of the equator. The United States contends that the final disposition of Yap was to be left till the International Communications Conference.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
[Yap is an island in the West Caroline group.]
