The Admiralty’s message to New Zealand on .the occasion of the Chatham’s departure, especially the reference to Lord Jellicoe, is understood here to he an unofficial reply to people in certain quarters who suggest strained personal relations between Lord Jellicoe and Lord Beatty.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. MESSAGES EXCHANGED. Per Press-Association. WELLINGTON, Oct. 25. The Admiralty’s message referred to in the cables is: “On the occasion of the departure of tho Chatham, the Board Yif Admiralty wish to congratulate the Governor-General mid the Government on the addition-of lliis modem cruiser to New Zealand naval force, it is a matter of special satisfaction to tho board that she commences her career under their auspices at a time when such a distinguished naval officer is Governor-General of that great Dominion.”

His Excellency sent the following reply; “My Government and I greatly appreciate the message of congratulations sent by the Board on the occasion of the departure of the Chatham. The presence of this ship in New Zealand ■waters will foster the sea spirit amongst the people of the Dominion and form a link in the chain of the Empire’s naval strength. 1 beg to add my personal thanks for kind reference to myself.— Jellicoe.”
