TAXATION OF RACE CLUB.

NOT TO BE RETROSPECTIVE. Per Press Association. AVELLINGTON, August 23. A private deputation interviewed the Premier recently on racing matters, Sir G. Clifford being spokesman. As a result it is stated that the Premier assured the deputation that the income taxation on clubs would not be retrospective. Reference was made to the collection of both 2|- por cent, on totalisator receipts and income tax, but Mr. Massey could not promise a revision, as all the finance possible was required. When the new land and income tax measure was brought down there would be a readjustment and the point might then be considered.

The Premier was also asked to give assistance in the suppression of the undesirable element, the clubs’ detectives not being able to cope with it, and he promised to consult the Minister, for Police on the subject.
