Sussex bea,t Surrey, the latter having the worst wicket. Middlesex beat Somerset. Hearn in the second innings took five wickets for 28 runs. Notts beat Kedt in the first innings. Yorkshire heat Essex. Waddington took four wickets for 40 runs and four for 32. Rhodes received a split finger. Lancashire heat Gloucester. The championship order is now:— Middlesex, Yorkshire, Lancashire, Kent, Surrey. In the hatting averages Hendren is first, with 67; Hobbs second, 56; Heame third,, Russell fifth, Makepeace ninth. In the bowling averages Rhodes is first, Woolley second, Howell sixth, Parkin eighth, Hearne eleventh, and Waddington — Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
