LATE SHIPPING.
FIRE ON A STEAMER. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, June 19. The Federal-Shire liner _ AA'cstmcath arrived from Liverpool, via Panama, this morning. On Alay 28, about J.oU a.m., smoke appeared from the ventilators of No. 4 hold. The fire was located ’tween decks, the smoke penetrating the freezing engine-room and bunkers. Ike dock and coamings of the fore part ol No. 4 hold started to crackle, lue captain had acids and other dangerous cargo in the vicinity jettisoned, and the vessel put head to the ''nnd. Two hoses extinguished the fire wlucli, shortly after midnight, was well in hand. Tho captain thinks the damage to ship and cargo is not great, but until the cargo in No. 4 hold is discharged it is impossible to make a reliable statement. ARRIVALS. AUCKLAND, June 19.
