BOWLING.

WEST END CLUB. • The annual meeting of the AVest End Bowling Club was held at the pavilion on Fnclav evening, Air. J. D. Sole (president) occupying the chair. There was a largo attendance of members. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report was as follows : In presenting tho tenth aniAial report xhe committee have to congratulate tire members of the club on the satisfactory results of tiie past season s working. The receipts from ail sources amounted to £230 Vs 9d and tho expenditure to £230 19s, but included in this ex2>cndituro is an amount of £2O for redemption of debentures in addition to which two years’ interest on debentures lias been paid, so that the actual working shows a profit of £1; 17s lid for the season. When it is taken into account the amount of now work that lias been done and the small membership of the club, we think that members w-ili agree that the results are very gratifying. During tho season an energetic working bee was responsible lor the erection of a summer house, which when completed will not only provide very necessary accommodation for the dispensing of afternoon teas, etc., but will. attord excellent shelter from the sun, and w© feel sure will be greatly appreciated by visitors and members alike. Eroni a, playing standpoint the club wore again very successful, winning tho Gilmour Cup and occupying prominent positions in all other competitions in which they took part, in addition to which nine members of the club were included in the Taranaki interprovincial team which toured Auckland with a faffi measure of success. In club competitions Mr. Billing was again successful in winning the •senior championship and is to be congratulated on his meritorious win. The same remarks apply to Air. Moverley, who was successful in the junior championship. The Gray challenge bowls have changed hands frequently during the season, but the Hodson trophies have been retained by the holders throughout the season. Both of these competitions have created! great interest amongst members. At the Taranaki tournament held in January, owing to the large number of entries, our winter green was requisitioned for play, and although time did not allow of any special preparation being made the green played well, and those taking part spoke in appreciative terms of the efforts of the club in providing this accommodation. During the year the committee were -able to amalgamate with the Western Park Board for the employment of a caretaker, and the arrangement made has proved very satisfactory; Yout committee suggest that the annual subscription bo raised. This is necessary to meet the largely increased cost of maintaining the greens in good order. .Members will readily recognise that the cost of all commodities has increased tremendously, and it will be absolutely necessary to have more revenue to make ends meet and carry out further improvements needed. Special mention is due to the caretaker for tho way in which he lias carried out his duties, tho condition of the greens and surroundings being a credit to him. The club are fortunate in having a secretary so keenly interested in the welfare of the club. Not only has he performed his secretarial duties admirably, but in addition he lias taken a very active part in planting and attending to the flower plots, while members will appreciate the courteous treatment that they have at all times received from him. Too much cannot be said of the good work of the green warden, who has devoted considerable time and not a little labour in the interests of tho club. Our lady friends have as usual rendered yeoman service, and the success of the club has been contributed to in no small measure by their effort, for which we are greatly indebted. Wo have also to thank tho press for their valuable and willing help. In conclusion we ask members to give to the incoming committee the same help and consideration that wo have received during our term of office. The chairman, in moving thb adoption of the said there were a few items in the balance-sheet which required some explanation. Included in the receipts were the sums of £125 for subscription and locker rents, donations accounted for £8 10s, including a donation of £3 8s from the secretary; entrance fees totalled £l9 ls r but £ls went to the Taranaki Centre, the club receiving £3 Gs for fees for club competitions. Tea money showed an actual profit of £4O. Two greens had been laid di«.vh, and the value of this with the labour employed was approximately £4OO, but this was only a prospective value and did not appear on the bal-ance-sheet. The actual position was that the liabilities of the club were 35 debentures, equal to £7O, and against this they had £69 17s 7d in the bank. Whilst the position was so satisfactory the members must not lose, sight of the fact that there was a tremendous amount of work ahead of them if they desired to bring the rinks up to the best in the province. Mr. Deare seconded, and there being no discussion tho report and balancesheet were adopted. ELECTION OP OFFICERS. Officers were elected as follows for the ensuing year:—President, Afr. J. Lobb; vice-presidents, 11. J. Deare and H. Townsloy; secretary and treasurer, Mr. L. H. Honeyfield (re-elect-ed) ; committee, Messrs.'Billing, Oliver, Hamilton, F. J, and H. HilL Beale, and Styles; auditor, Mr. Corney; selector, Mr. F. J. Hill; match, commit too, Messrs. Lobb, • F. J. Hill and Beal; delegates to the Taranaki Centre, Messrs. J. D. Sole and F. J. Hill; green wardsman, F. J. Hill. GENERAL. Dealing with the question of tho annual subscription the chairman pointed out that the cost of running two greens was fairly expensive. Other expenditure was also mounting up, and to help balance this it was necessary to increase the subscription fee. Other clubs that had held meetings had been faced with the same position, and tho lowest be bad heard of was £3 3s. Tho committee had considered the question, and on their recommendation he moved that tho subscription he £3, to be reduced to £2 10s if paid before .December 31. This was for summer play, those joining after February 1 to he charged 255, honorary members to pay £1 Is. After a brief discussion this was carried. Regarding debentures it was resolved that the incoming committee make every effort to redeem as many debentures as possible during the year. Messrs. C. H. Burgess, R. H. George, and Saunders (AVanganui)' were elected active, and Mr. F. AA’at.son an honorary member. In recognition of services jumdurad

to the club in connection with the xt inter green Mr. Skinner was elected a member of the winter rink play. A hearty vote of thanks was passed for the services rendered by the ladies during the season, and as some recognition of these services it was decided to have a “ladies’ day” on the green. A hearty vole of thanks was also extended to tho press for publicity mid other assistance. A very cordial vote of thanks was passed to the retiring officials, appreciative reference being made to the valued services of Air, Sole in his impoitautoffice.
