RAGING CLUBS AND INCOME TAX.

A LEGAL DECISION. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, June 19. The Ashburton and Greymouth Racing Clubs appealed for exemption from income-tax. Mr. Justice Chapman dismissed the appeal. He said counsel had argued that there was an implied esomption on account of racing clubs bcino- subject to so many other taxes, but the terms of the Act of 1916 were very explicit. It was true it was passed m war time, but war expenses bad not vet ceased. He suggested that the legislature must be appealed to, and not the courts.
