The Masterton Teachers’ Institute passed a resolution this morning hoping that upon review the Department will revert to the main lines of the old grading scheme, which now obtained wide acceptance. ASIATIC COMPETITION. AUCKLAND, June 12. Replying to a protest by shopkeepers against Asiatic competition, Mr. Massey Baj-.s the -question' of amending tho Immigration Restriction Act will hare consideration in tho legislation of the coming session. He asks for further particulars with regard to the suggestion that the Government legislate to buy out Asiatic shops under the same heading as those of Europeans. INFLUENZA IN THE KING COUNTRY. TE KUTTI, June 12. A case of pneumonic influenza is reported from Oparurc. Inspector Milne has been sent to tho district. The Native school has been closed and the tangi dispersed. MISHAP AT WELLINGTON 1 WHARF. i "WELLINGTON, June 12. The cable steamer Iris, while leaving the wharf this morning, collided with the Philomel lying at the next berth. It is understood the Iris, which was to repair cables in Cook Strait, is rather badly damaged, but no particulars are available. There was a heavy fog at the time of tho collision.
