EFFECTS OF ALCOHOL.
A SUBJECT FOB SCHOOLS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Juno 10. Replying to a deputation representing temperance uocnes or the Dominion, tno iron. C.- 3. Parr, Minister or Education, to-day announced trie department's intention to make an arrangement for some more definite instruction of children in tho State schools in the subject or temperance. Mr. Parr said lie took tiie subject from tho point of view of a parent, and did not think any reasonably minded parent could object to sound instruction being given to children about temperance and the dangers of alcohol to the human organism. Ho fully agreed that the time had arrived when sound instruction in this matter should bo given more in detail and more specifically, and he had already resolved on a plan of action. ilo proposed to sec that every teacher had a sencme of work prepared for a year, and should make provision in tho time devoted to health and "hygiene for some portion thereof to bo devoted to the subject the deputation came to discuss. Inspectors would be instructed to see that tins instruction was duly given. Naturally there would not ho a hint of politics or prohibition in this teaching—ho would have to bo very emphatic about that.
