CARELESS MOTORISTS.

A CORONER’S REMARKS

Per Press Association. PALMERSTON N., June 8,

At the inquiry into the recent motor smash at Snndon, whereby A. E. Eglinton was killed, and E. A. Penny and F. Kidman died subsequently from injuries, the coroner found that Eglinton's car was on the correct side of the road, and that up to the minute before tho collision had its lights burning. As to the. speed of the ton’s had not much pace, but Ncwtb’s was travelling at 25 miles an hour, and probably- more. The coroner did not consider 30 miles an hour, or a little -over, excessive at tho particular place where the collision occurred 1 , though he thought that there was a failure on tho part of the driver of Ncwth’s car to keep a proper look-out. If the latter had taken ordinary care he must have seen Eglinton’s car lights and been prepared. Therefore, ho found that there was some negligence on Nowth’s part in failing to keep a proper look-out. Under the circumstances, he would return an open verdict, that tho deceased died from injuries sustained in a motor collision at Sandon on May 20. The coroner added that he would like to remark on the reckless driving which was undoubtedly- carried on throughout tho country, and which caused tho accidents they read about so often. "To his mind these accidents were tho result of carelessness, and it was necessary that some action should be taken to prevent reckless driving.
