M'Dotignll, who was tarred and feathered by returned soldiers, wrote his poem at the time of the Boer War, hut during the present war it has been frequently republished. It refers to soldiers ns sordid killers who would murder for a feo, and adds: “Hog-souled and dirty-lmnded Yo sell yourselves for gain, And stand forever branded, Red felons after Cain.” —Aus.-N.Z.
