TURF TOPICS. (By “Historicus.”) R. J. Mason intends taking a team to Auckland, and will certainly make his presence felt. Tho following horses will comprise the team: Rossini (Derby), Dewdrop (two-year-old races), Karo and Falstaff (handicaps), arid _ Gloaming (w.f.a. races). Tho latter is right at the top of his form, and ran six furlongs in Imin. 14soc. during the week. Tessares showed great pace in the Foilding Stakes, and it will take a good “maiden” to boat the daughter of Demosthenes at "Woodvillo. Jutland was shockingly ridden on the second day at Feilding, and Marqueteur was not at all well handled in the Manchester Handicap; in fact with a little luck both of Cox’s geldings might have won. On Feilding form Hymestra cannot have much chance in tho Railway Handicap, but his stable-mate Trespass has been supported for tins event. Acre has incurred a 51b. penalty for the Railway Handicap, bringing his impost to 8.13. If sent to Ellorslic the son of Lineacro will receive plenty of support from this cud, as his performances at Feilding were of high order; in fact Acre’s Oroua Stakes effort was the best tho writer has seen, as ho was giving three brilliant sprinters in Murihiku, Croesus and Hymestra quite six lengths in tho straight, and then got up in time to win. Sir Geo. Clifford is sending Moorfowl.

Hcathercote and Royal Stag to Ellerslie. H. Young and the successful lightweight, T. L. Reid, will do the riding. According to present arrangements it is intended to send Mac Duff and Onslaught to Awapuni at Christmas. G. Young will be the Chokebore jockey at this fixture. . Mr. A. MacDonald is sending tion north for the Auckland Cup; two other horses from the stable will accompany tho son of Kilbroney. Despite his good showing in the Melbourne Cup and other races, Snub was quoted at a very long price on the “charts,” hut after seeing the finishing run of Martian’s son in the St. Andrew’s Handicap tho price was dropped by half. Snub locks remarkably bright, and must run prominently at Ellerslio. In some quarters it is stated that. Client and Acre will compete at Awapuni. If this is the case a lot of money will bo lest, as Acre was freely supported for the Railway Handicap by those who witnessed his Feilding performances. Dusky Eve looked remarkably well at Feilding, but his running was a puzzle to his supporters. Over the first part of the journey the bay was pulling Bagby out of the saddle, and he foolishly tried to got through on the rails at the four furlong post; as a result he got on the heels of a horso and had a miraculous escape from a severe fall, as it was tho gelding lost six lengths. But to mv mind he finished badly. Acceptances for the Manawatu Raclii"- Club’s summer meeting, also final payment for the 14th Palmerston North Stakes close oii Tuesday next, 9th inst., at 9 p.m.
