The broad result of the Liquor Control Board's experiment of purchasing and transforming Carlisle hotels into comfortable taverns and directly controlling the sale of liquor has practically wiped out drunkenness without penalising the moderate drinker. Air. Lloyd George favours the experiment, which he considers to bo a conspicuous success, and only regrets that it was not extended to other municipalities in more populated areas.— Aus.-N.Z.
