Mr. T. Fletcher, headmaster of the Cheviot School, has been appointed editor of the School Journal. Unofficial reports from Melbourne state that Sir Edmund Barton will succeed Sir Samuel Griffith as Chief Juslice. A Sydney message reports that the Rev. j. M. Stewart lias been elected Bishop of Melanesia to succeed Bishop Wilson, who has resigned. Captain M. Wylie, M.C.. of Maitara, is returning to New Zealand by the Somerset, which is due Jit Lyttelton on August 19. Other Taranaki men returning by the same boat are: StaffSergt.'S. B. Morisou (Ngaere) and Private F. V. Clomow (Now Plymouth). A Blenheim Press message states that Frederick Redwood, second son of the late Henry Rerwood, “father of the Now Zealand turf,” and nephew of Archbishop Redwood, died at his home at Spring Crock on Wednesday.
