GOAL FAMINE IN EUROPE.
A SERIOUS POSITION. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received Augusts, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, August 3. The Supreme Economic Council met in London at the week end. It viewed the European coal situation with the utmost gravity. Production has fallen dangerously low, and it is impossible to decrease 'consmnjption sufficiently to meet the deficit owing to the essential minimum requirements. The only remedy is to increase production and improve the distributive organisation. The latest estimate of the British output is 180 million tons, which does not suffice for internal consumption. Italy’s prospects are considered grave in view of the cessation of British ex-ports.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
