A huge meeting at the Town Hall passed a resolution calling on the authorities to release Freeman and asking all connected with the sailing of the Sonoma to refuse duty until this was effected. A crowd of several thousands marc lied from the Trades’ Hall to the wharf demanding his release. They raided several shooting galleries .on route, seizing rifles, but after the announcement that Freeman was being taken ashore the crowd dispersed. Four people were injured during a fight with the police.
