DAIRY ASSOCIATION.

SOUTH ISLAND MEETING. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Juno 4. At the annual meeting of the South Island Dairy Association the chairman (Mr. Middleton) said the operations of the association led to a satisfactory deal regarding the cheese output. The butter representatives thought they wero not getting quite a fair deal compaft',d with the cheese people. They thought they had a grievance in the insistence of the Imperial Government grouping the sale of butter and cheese. An effort was still being made to improve the butter position. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following directors were elected; Messrs. T. Buckingham (Drummond), Arnott (Wyndham), and Middleton (Waimahaka). The question of forming a mutual insurance company was considered, and a committee was set up to report to the executive meeting. It was decided that the executive take steps to provide the secretary with assistance, leaving him free to carry into effect the policy of the association.

Tho meeting decided to recommend to dairy factories to promote the formation of herd-testing associations, also that A. and P. Associations in the South Island be strongly urged to hold bull fairs at a suitable month each year, and that 50 per cent, of the Government stud bulls be distributed for sale at those fairs. The following motion was carried:— That the outlook in tho near future re shipping freights for ail farm produce is a serious menace to the prosperity of New Zealand, and it is imperative that all dairy and meat export companies combine for common defence, and support a fair rate of freight, and that tho executive move in this dovetion at once.
