(By Tianui.) CANDY. In reply to several correspondents I have to say that I have arranged with Mr. Singh, confectioner, Devon Street central, to make up any quantity for those requiring it, the price is Scl per lb. It can only be made up as ordered, ami Mr. Singh’s terms are cash with order. ' I understand that the Beekeepers’ Association will have a sample on their stall at the Winter Show next week, so that those who require it may know what it is like. Several times I have been asked for a good method of rendering a .small quantity of combs into wax. Mr. Westbrook, the Auckland inspector, has a paragraph in the May number of the New Zealand Journal of Agriculture in which he recommends as follows: “It may be of some to explain a simple method of securing the wax from small quantities of combs, for those who have but one or two hives as follows; Take the combs, after straining out tiie honey ,and place them in a ‘scrim’ bag, then put this into a large copper nearly filled with water, placing a few weights on top so as to keep all the scrim below the surface of the water. Bring the water to- the boil and leave till cold. The wax can thou be lifted off in a cake and remelted in a smaller vessel, so as to make it more compact. The best method of cleaning the copper after this operation is |p empty it first, place a few pieces of paper or shavings in the fir© place —sufficient to heat up the metal without burning it—and then with a damp cloth wipe out the particles of wax which will have molted.” ANNUAL CONFERENCE. The annual conference of beekeepers of New Zealand will be held in'Wellington next week, beginning on Juno 11. NORTH TARANAKI ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting will be held in the. Winter Show buildings on Saturday, Juno 14. at 12 noon. Subscriptions are now due. WINTER SHOW. The committee of the local association are stewards for the honey section, and invito all beekeepers to send along samples of their honey for the exhibit, demonstrating the various grades of Taranaki honey. The committee will look after exhibits and repack after the show. There is a possibility of a wire cage being used this year in which demon strations of handling the bees and combs can be given, and no doubt the promoters will make all the, necessary arrangements for giving a. “stunt,” they are hoping that some of the persons who are reported to be able to do "just as they like with the bees, without veil or smoko or any of your ‘fal the vnls,’ wil" come along and show the ‘now chums’ how they do it." Personally I hear of them occasionally, but have not been fortunate enougli to meet one of them during my ob years of beekeeping. 1 oeitj/hily would like to see--the above experts, or at least one of them, being still a learner in "bee work and handling.”
