A BANDSMAN’S WIDOW.

AN APPEAL. TO THE iiniTOß. Sir,—At the suggestion of a number of citizens. 1 am writing these few linos to ask if 3 T ou would solicit contributions towards a fund we are inaugurating in aid of the widow and infant daughter of the late Sandman Sid. Hodges. This man went to the front with one of the early reinforcements, and after serving in Trance, returned home broken in health. A matter of two or three months ago he invested his little “all” in commencing business on Jiis own account, and his sudden death has left his widow /in an unfortunate position. An appeal jby myself to the New Plymouth Citi’zens’ Band committee has resulted in £l7 10s fid being subscribed to commence the fund, and t am assured that others are only waiting to learn that an official appeal is being made, so as to render Mrs. Hedges temporary relief, if nothing else. Trusting friends will either send their contributions to me, or direct to your good selves, as the late bandsman was a “white man’’ in every sense of the word. 1 am, etc F. W. G. M‘Lend, Conductor. [We shall gladly comply with Mr. M'Leod’s request to receive contributions to the fund which the bandsmen have so generously initiated.—Ed. T.H.] BANDSMAN’S 'WIDOW FUND. , £ s. d.
