RIFLE SHOOTING.

(By “Scout.”) Details of the Patea Rifle Association's meeting held on Tuesday are not to hand, but despite tho refusal of the Defence Department to issue railway passes there were about 100 competitors. The championship was won by Palmer (Patea R.C.), with Oliver (New Plymouth R.C.) second. The proposal to hold a meeting of delegates from the various rifle clubs in the district is meeting with very much support, and although it may be impossible for every club to send representatives the proceedings at the meeting will no doubt have their approval. •The Shield Match between the _Hawera and New Plymouth Defence Rifle Clubs will take place at Hawora on June 12. The local club will fire tho / fourth match for the Thursday and Saturday Cups on those afternoons this week ; the handicaps are not to hand yet, but will reach the secretary before the maches. The final match for the championship will bo fired on June 14, ranges 900 and 1000 yards. The leading scores stand at present as follows:—Hon. member Jarvis 334, Deputy-President Ramson 324, Rifleman Blanchett 311. In reply to a. request for a B.S.A. rifle sight the would-be purchaser received the following wire from the company ;—“ . . .We are sorry to inform you that wo have no B.S.A. rear aperture sights of any pattern now in stock for delivery, and we have not definitely decided at the moment whether to manufacture further supplies.” Tlie" mdral'fdr‘those already possessing them is to take care of them-
