Lord Ribblesdalr.'s secretary has married Mrs. J. J. Astor, widow of the victim of the Titanic disaster. A New York cablegram reports that the Prince of Wales will visit Japan after his Canadian tour. A London cable states that Lord Liverpool’s term as Governor-General of New Zealand has been extended to June, 1920. Mrs. W. G. Anstis, Omata, has received a cable from her husband, Private Anstis, stating that he left Englandl on May 10 by the Waimana. At Monday’s meeting of the Taranaki County Council, Mr. R. Branch, inspector, forwarded his resignation, which was accepted with regret. Mr. J. S. Connett, chairman of the Taranaki County Council has been appointed to represent the council at the forthcoming conference of county councils. Mrs. P. Bellringer, of Gill Street, has received word that her two sons, Corporal H. R. Bellringer and Rifleman W. J. Bellringer, are arriving by the Waimana, which is due in Auckland about June 20. Mr. Hugh Fraser, late of New Plymouth, has taken his discharge in England, and is now associated with the London Press. He expects to return to New Zealand at the end of the presentyear. ■’’’ Dr. E. A. Walker has resumed his duties as medical superintendent of the New Plymouth Hospital, releasing Dr. E. F. Fookes, who has held the position during the illness of Dr. Walker. Mr. A. L. Logan, son of the late Mr. J. K. Logan, -of the Telegraph Department, has joined Mr. Bayley’s dental practice in New Plymouth. Previous to the war Mr. Logan was in practice in Palmerston North. He left New Zealand with the Main. Body as dental officer, and saw sendee in Egypt, Gallipoli, France, and finally in England, being away on active service for four and a half years altogether. Mr. Logan’s name has recently been brought to the notice of the Secretary of State for services rendered in connection with the war. Mr. T. B. Blanchett, who has been on the staff of Mr. Newton King for the past 32 years, is retiring and going into private life, and on Saturday evening he was the recipient of a handsome presentation from his fellow employees in the form of a. canteen of cutlery, which boro the following inscription: “Presented to Mr. T. B. Blanchett by I his fellow employees, on his retirement from Mr. Newton King’s staff,- after over 30 years’ faithful service; May 30, 1919.” Mr. S. W. Shaw, in making the presentation, referred to the recipient’s long association with Mr. King’s staff and eulogised his loyal and faithful service during the whole of that period. Mr. F. Watson also made a few appropriate remarks, Mr. Blanchett suitably responding. The death occurred on Sunday at Normanby at the age of 79 of Mrs. Jane Elizabeth Taylor, relict bf the late Mr. Richard Henry Taylor, whose death occurred at Inglewood early in February last year. Mrs. Taylor (the Star says) was married at Birmingham in 1859, and later went to America, subsequently returning to England, and leaving a few months later for New Zealand. They arrived in Auckland in June, 1865. After about nine years spent in the Auckland province they came to New Plymouth, and later went to Inglewood. After a time they took up a section on the Norfolk Road, which Mr. Taylor fanned for 27 •years before taking a farm at Okaiawa. Later Mr. and Airs. Taylor returned to Inglewood. Mrs. Taylor leaves three sons "and seven daughters to mourn their loss. The following are the sons and daughters; Air. T. H. Taylor, Rotokare; Air. W. Taylor, Egmont Village; Air. J.
