AGAINST CESSION TO POLAND

LONDON) May 30. The Dany Chronicle's correspondent visited Silesia, and found that the fire of revolt was burning among a million and a half out of the two minions population. Despite the rain and cold, demonstrations were made against the proposal to give the Silesian mines to Poland. it was pointed out tiiat the people’s sentiments were overwhelmingly in support of this attitude. A German leader declared that tile entire working class was preparing to defend the home soil. A tnousand with upheld hands swore in unison ; ‘ ‘We will remain free till death rather than enter Polish slavery.” The correspondent adds that the people are in deadly earnest, and won’t submit to control by people of lower culture. RANTZAU NOT LIKELY TO

RETURN

It is rumoured among the German delegates that the meeting between Count von Rantzau and Berlin emissaries at Spa was stormy, and that it is unlikely von Rantzau w’ll return to Versailles. A meeting of the Grand Council at Berlin advocated an appeal to international democracy and alliance with the Russian Bolsheviks. The generals present protested that the remedy would be worse than the disease, Tho opinion prevailed that armed resistance was impossible. It is learnt that the German Government’s reply to Lenin’s offer of alliance stipulates that the Soviet system m Russia must be transformed into a Socialist Government.
