Germany is willing io agree to the destruction of her military power if she is allowed to enter the League of Nations on equal terms according to the statement of German counter-prfiposals. DIVISION OF TURKEY. FURTHER PROPOSALS. (Received May 31, 1.30 p.m.) PARIS, May 18. A third proposal is that Italy administer Southern Anatolia; and a fourth that Northern Anatolia, including Broussa and Angora, form a Turkish State whose independence France will undertake to safeguard. ROME, May 18. Considerable newspaper agitation followed the news that a Greek division had been authorised to occupy Smyrna. It is pointed out that two-thirds of Trieste’s trade was with Smyrna. Italy’s claims to Smyrna are apparently not recognised. Although the newspapers advise calmness they forcibly protest against Italy’s claims before the Paris Conference being sacrificed to profit either the Jugo-Slavs or the Greeks.
