TO DAY’S DISCUSSIONS.

CHRISTCHURCH, May 30. ‘ At the Returned Soldiers’ Conference this morning the executive remit re garding pensions was earned, also a remit from Hawera that the Cabinet be requested to .direct the Pensions’ Board to apply the doctrine of pre-war dis ability only after a careful review of the whole circumstances in each case. A Dannerirke remit, that no soldier’s pension ho reduced without his having first appeared before a medical officer, and tbo Hamilton remit, that the minimum pension be £3 15s weekly were carried! , A motion by Mr. Long (Auckland) that when the application-of a returned soldier is refused by the Pensions 1 ’ Board, be shall bo allowed to appeal against the decision with a representative of the R..S.A. to conduct his appeal was canned. It was'decided that the Got ernment be approached to form a Pensions’ Appeal Board, also to affirm that the Pensions’ Act should bo amended to provide pensions being payable either in sense of death or) disablement at any time after discharge, where the death or disablement was the result of war service.

The conference discussed proposals affirming the principle of paying a totally disabled man his pre-war income and referred the question to the incoming executive to obtain the evidence of economists.

Hie confeience resolved to acknowledge letters from the United Federa tion of Labour and Canterbury Industrial Association expressing good wishes and proffering help.
